On the bubble with pocket 9s - play them or fold?

I have little experience at MTT, first time making to pay line bubble.

UB $5+.5 buy in, first 70 places pay.
80 players left, Hero is #70, stack 3500, #71-80 have about 3000 down to 2000, but I'm lowest at my table. Others at table have 4000 to 11000.

Hero is UTG+1 with 9 [img]/images/graemlins/spade.gif[/img]9 [img]/images/graemlins/diamond.gif[/img]
Blinds + antes will shortly cost me about 1/3 of my stack.

UTG folds. Do I play this or fold hoping to hang in long enough to make it into the money?

What are the blinds and antes? It sounds like your M is 3, this is an easy push. As Harrington might say, "feel lucky" that you got a pair of nines UTG+1 with an M of 3 if you lose.

villain had pocket 4s, I was toast.

That's when I wondered if I shouldn't have just folded. I had enough chips for 3 more orbits and the guys below me in the tourney would be getting more desperate than I was. Like I said, very little MTT experience, first time this close to pay line.

Rather than being concerned about the outcome of the hand, consider where things stood when the money went in -- you were a 4:1 favorite. If you could see the caller's cards and then decide whether to push or fold, which would you choose?

You may want to cash for the first time, but to be a good MTT player, you must be willing to risk it all.

Will you be happy if you play 3 hour for $5? Or do you want to risk a little more and make a couple hundreds if you are lucky?

It is an easy push.

Bad beat post. You got yourself in position to win the hand as a 80% favorite. It's a push every time your M is under 8, some will say under 11.

Good point, If I had seen the pocket 4's, I'd have pushed without hesitation.

This is definitely a no-brainer. I'd push this with any PP and a whole lot more. If you don't have a legit hand, just hope nobody calls and hope you get lucky if they do.
