Default Random resets, my PSU?

wtf, my computer will sometimes reset unprovoked while under load (PP, PAHUD, PT). This reminds me of an old computer than had a failing PSU, except I don't know if this is affected by load. Any thoughts?

This is normally a sign of your CPU overheating, check your cooling fan, filter, and air circilation ASAP.

yes, my cpu is overheating. Why though? Fan is operational. Can you recommend a replacement? Socket 478. Btw, I was seeing temps of 85c under stress. Jesus!

i'm idling at 53c right now.

The quick and dirty solution is to run with the cover off.

If you want to replace the heatsink, I suggest Thermalright.

85c under load is WAY to high for any normal long term use.

There's something wrong with your airflow or your heatsink fan. If you've moved the computer recently your heatsink could have been displaced and not have good contact with the CPU core anymore.

That is the most common cause for what you describe. However a very poor airflow in your case could also be causing it. Running it without the cover and monitoring the temps is the easy way to see if thats the problem.

You can try removing it and replacing it yourself, but its likely that if you remove it completely you'll need to replace the thermal compounds. You should (if you're not experienced) let someone who know what they are doing, do it for you.

Note :
I'm going to assume that you're not living in the desert and running your computer outside or under the sun where you case temps would reach 50c or something like that...

Google "Bay Freezer" and install that into your PC. It works really well.
