Life Update: Giving up on Peace Corps/Moving (Surprisingly succinct)
So if anyone remembers, I posted earlier this year that I was applying to become a peace corps volunteer. Turns out it isn't such a good idea when you don't have insurance. Here's my expenses related to the application so far:
Doctor's visit: $150 (partially reimbursed) Lab fees for blood tests: $450 Dentist appointments: ($300 and $480, $80 reimbursed) So that's about $1200 out of pocket. I still have to have oral surgery to remove my wisdom teeth (I'm thinking over $1000 easily, correct?)and I have to see a psychologist for an evaluation related to taking ritalin when I was 14 years old. When I called to make an appointment they told me that no psychologist would ever sign anything without seeing me several times, so I'm thinking that will be $500 minimum. *SO* I'm thinking of giving up on all this BS and taking the other route and just looking for a job. I'd like to relocate, perhaps someone can suggest a new city for me: * I'm single * Being near a cardroom would be a plus * I like bars/live music * I like being around reasonably intelligent people * I don't like douchebags * I need a good IT job market * Cold weather doesn't bother me, but I could go either way |

Silicon valley is calling. SF has tons of live music and there are cardrooms up and down the peninsula.
Edit: I've been accused of douche-baggery though, so we're not gonna be roomies. |

sounds like san francisco might be a good city for you, especially if you like reasonably intelligent people and hate douchebags. Super expensive though. Good luck

SF might be a little over my head at first. Are there semi-reasonable options in the bay area as far as cost of living goes?

I think the question everyone wants to know is if you are really black.

ME-
Portland isnt very close to a card room (~1hr) but its meets all of you other criteria and is absoluetely a beautiful and fun place to live. Plus you could possibly meet TSC and myself one day. |
