Default Another tipping (bartender) thread

Search function isn't in my vocabulary. So on with it.

The other night a few buddies of mine and myself went to the bar. This bar is located in a local casino (Thunder Valley) if anyone cares. Anyway, I order a Saphire & tonic, and notice the bartender sneaks some Tanqueray in there (not tanq 10) After, WTFing it with my buddy, I decided to take the passive route and just throw it down (I like tanq) and my buddy picked up the drink. Well, I proceed to order a few more drinks, and tip modestly, $1 on a $6.50 drink...

This is where I get confused...

I decide it's time for a beer, and order a Heineken (last resort), $4.50 for the brew. Now, there's a HUGE difference between making a drink, and pulling a beer from the fridge. Personally, I don't think tipping the tender for a beer is a dick move. It's a friggin beer, takes NO talent what so ever. Had he opened it with some fancy flick of the wrist or some mumbo jumbo like that, a couple Washingtons may have came dancing his way.

So my question is this,

Is not tipping the bartender for a beer a dick move in your opinion?

Discuss.

Cliff Notes: I tip the bartender for mixed drinks, but should I tip the bartender for a beer?

only an idiot doesn't tip his bartender -

i've gotten free drinks, hookups on women, smoke, and private poker games - all by treating my bartenders well -

if all you want is beer, it's only a minor dick move, but not tipping is a dick move in general.

I always wax nostalgic when these bartending posts show up. I spent a little too long in the bartending game.....
the tip has a multi-facited purpose as RB pointed out, my reason for over tipping is professional courtesy but more importantly the origin of the word itself. To Insure Promptness, when the place is rockin and you need a drink YOU WANT IT NOW. You tip well, you get it now, you tip cheap...wait your turn chump.
On the other hand, I'm not likeing the dick move with the tanguray...

I did leave 75 cents on the Heineken, but then thought to myself. . . bar full of cock, fat chicks, and stiffed with the Tanqueray . . . I didn't tip on the 2nd Heine. I work in the restaurant industry, I know about tipping and such (hooking up with free drinks, promptness, etc), however, considering the circumstances, I didn't think I was out of line here.

'preciate the feedback...

Well, you suck at thinking. You do realize that two of the three items on your list should have no relationship to whether you tip or not?

Two things Mr. Flame, it's obviously a joke, and it's kinda spinning off whiskeytowns post.

I stand corrected. thank you.

and to be clear, the dick move on the tanguray was by the bartender, I would have called him on it. Unless it was a she with high grade cleavage......
