Default Rooney

Sounds like he is very unlikely to play any part in the World Cup.

Unmitigated disaster for England ... I thought we had a real chance this year. Without him, we have none. Real shame for the World Cup generally as well, as Rooney is one of the top 5 talents in the world.

So who plays up front for England (Defoe? Bent? the freak Crouch?)? What formation do we play (4-5-1?)? Do we take Rooney anyway just in case he heals?

Why did this have to happen? grrrrrrrrrr

England wouldn't have been in the top 4 teams in the world anyway. IMO.

I think with Rooney they had a really good chance to win.

I'd just play Crouch on 4-5-1 and take Rooney hoping he could play at least a game.

I don't get all the hate for Crouch. He's a good striker, he's important in the box (offensively and defensively in set pieces), he has decent technique for his height...

I actually think Crouch is better than most people do, and you're right he has a good touch, but I don't see that he is international class, and I don't think we will get anywhere with him playing at the WC.

I would probably go for Owen (if fit) or Bent, and play 5 in midfield (Carrick holding, Beckham (or Lennon) and Cole on the wings, and Gerrard and Lampard in the centre).

I'm not a big fan of having a single short stricker, if you're going to play with Owen I don't think you can use 4-5-1.

its because he is this year's emile heskey, IE a striker that doesn't score and is basically a bag of crap in general
