Default More \"Funny lines heard at the poker table\"

So I'm watching a cash game for a few minutes while working the floor.

There was this guy lecturing a younger player who was obviously new to the game and didn't know all that much about playing live. After a player makes a crappy straight on the river with trash hole cards and another player with QQ loses, the "wise" player tells the newbie:

"It's important to READ the different dealers. Some dealers only let crappy cards come through to make big hands. Some only let the big cards like pocket pairs win. Sometimes you can tell as soon as they sit down. This dealer lets trash win."

The guy didn't go into exactly how these extremely valuable tells can be detected. The newer player just had this confused look on his face. It was priceless.

Hey you dealers out there. What's your "tell"? Only big cards win or trash wins?

I just point to the ShuffleMaster machine, and say that all of those things have been taken out of my hands.

No way, dude. You still cut the deck. You probably have about 30 different choices for where to cut what comes out of the Shufflemaster each time, and I'm sure at least one of those thirty woulda dealt me a winner. It's YOUR fault when I lose.

It's true! All of the dealers I've seen change gears just when I think I've got them figured out, though. VERY frustrating!

I started dealing again a few weeks ago. One of the regulars didn't take long to decide that he cannot win any hand that I deal. He's busted himself a few times (once holding a T3s), and quickly pinned it all on me.

The other night, he's in the late stages of a tournament. He's got a mountain of chips (he's a very good tourney player). I push into the game. He throws a tantrum about how I bust him every time, and he announces that he's leaving the table for 30 minutes. I'll move on to the next table at that time, and he'll return then.

The guy really did leave the room for thirty minutes.

One minute after he left, they broke my table, and all the players got moved to other tables.

When I was in LA there wsa a player in the mexican poker game that called me "El Diablo." Everytime I would deal to him he lost all his chips (usually about $2k). One time he left for my down, but my push was late so I was still there when he got back and he played one hand from me. He lost $4200 that hand.

At first it seemed weird that he lsot all his chips when I would deal to him, then I realized that he loses all his chips every down, so there was no reason to think I would be any different.

It's well understood that the regular dealer at our club dishes out plenty of bad beats. Of course, this is incredible for the game.

That it is. And it is reinforced through random events.

After 5 or 6 downs, it was "apparent" that the blue deck was flopping big, and the red deck was flopping small at the dog track one afternoon.
