For PokerBob...
The other day, you posted a hand where you checked behind the turn so you could raise the river, and i said i didn't like it. I just thought of that when i played this hand, so i thought it would cool to post. Generally, it's to do an example post without it looking results oriented, so i'm not going to worry about it.
Party Poker 20/40 Hold'em (4 handed) internettexasholdem.com Preflop: Hero is Button with K[img]/images/graemlins/club.gif[/img], J[img]/images/graemlins/club.gif[/img]. Hero raises, 1 fold, BB calls. Flop: (4.50 SB) 8[img]/images/graemlins/heart.gif[/img], K[img]/images/graemlins/diamond.gif[/img], 3[img]/images/graemlins/spade.gif[/img] (3 players) BB checks, Hero bets, BB calls. Turn: (3.25 BB) 9[img]/images/graemlins/diamond.gif[/img] (3 players) BB checks, Hero checks. River: (3.25 BB) K[img]/images/graemlins/heart.gif[/img] (3 players) BB bets, Hero raises, BB 3-bets, Hero caps, BB calls. Final Pot: 11.25 BB Results in white below: BB has Ac 9c (two pair, kings and nines). UTG doesn't show. Hero has Kc Jc (three of a kind, kings). Outcome: Hero wins 11.25 BB. I liked doing it in this situation because... 1.) I basically always have the best hand 2.) My opponent pretty much never has more than 5 outs, but he can sometimes be drawing dead or to three aces, as i would often get more action from a pair 3.) I will induce lots of river bluffs 4.) If he has a pair, he will bet and almost always call a raise Here was one other situation where i made this play. In this particular case, the SB was Josh, which played into my thinking... Party Poker 20/40 Hold'em (4 handed) internettexasholdem.com Preflop: Hero is BB with K[img]/images/graemlins/diamond.gif[/img], A[img]/images/graemlins/club.gif[/img]. 2 folds, SB raises, Hero 3-bets, SB calls. Final Pot: 10 BB Results in white below: Hero has Kd Ac (two pair, kings and fours). SB has Ah 2h (one pair, fours). Outcome: Hero wins 10 BB. On the flop, he is usually thin/dead. So, my check makes it look like i might be giving up in a blind battle, as my 3 betting range is pretty wide. Also, knowing that he is a solid player, if he has a hand like QJ and pairs on the river, he will bet, and it's so tough for him not to call a raise, whereas he might simply fold that hand to a continuation be on the turn. Also, i know that we will probably be playing together a decent amount in the near future, and this makes it much mor difficult for him to make thinner value bets on the river. (FWIW, we talked about his river bet, which neither of us like... but once i raise i don't think his 3 bet is bad if he has never seen me do this before) |
