Totally unrelated but Tunnel in the Sky by heinlein is amazing. Put down any SF that you are reading now and read that.

I really loved this book. It's about the only "romance" book I've read; it was the time travelling twist that drew me in, but I think I'd enjoy it without the time travelling it's that well written.
