When I was on the chess team in high school I played a game against a total prick who was beating me pretty badly, but I didn't resign and he accidentally stalemated and proceeded to throw a fit like a 5 year old. It was even more satisfying than a win.

1.) Why didn't you resign about five moves before this?

2.) Be thankful the "*" system is in limbo.

3.) If you suck at chess, PM me and I will give you an opening that you can use as black or white, no matter what you opponent does you make the same moves. It is an excellent opening when playing higher ranked opponents > 100elo.

Couple people mentioned it.
It's called a "stalemate"

It's white's turn. But he can't make any legal move.
He's not allowed to 'pass' his turn.
And since he's not in check he can't lose the game here either.

Obviously when black gets an advantage like this it is his responsibility to force a check-mate without accidentally letting his opponent turn it into a stalemate/draw.

There are some people out there who think a situation like this should be changed to a loss for white.
But this would change chess strategy fairly significantly, especially endgame strategy.
