Re: I hate AQ so much. Hand vs Juanda, Niagara wpt
Steve,
Given that you check/called the turn, you have to call the river against someone like Juanda. Against some random you may be able to fold the river, but Juanda will be betting here like 95% of the time. I'm not really sure what Juanda's range is when he gets to the turn. I haven't played w/ him before, so I don't know if he somehow a) gets there w/ a hand like K[img]/images/graemlins/heart.gif[/img]Q[img]/images/graemlins/heart.gif[/img] and b) bets the turn w/ it if you check to him. From what I've heard, its quite possible (probable?). As for whether or not to bet the turn, I'm not sure. I can definitely see the merits in betting, but at the table I'm not sure I fire away. I'm likely taking the line you did the majority of the time - and probably hating it when its over. |

"I just dont see enough advantages to checking to warrant making your life that much more difficult."
I'm sorry to say I don't get it. Are you saying leading the turn makes your life easier because you can safely fold to a raise? Isn't this a way ahead / way behind, pot control situation? I personally like OP's line against a payer like Juanda. The last thing I want to do is inflate the pot on the turn. Someone help me see the light. I'm sure I'm missing something. |

I for sure bet the turn, smallish. I think given your check you have to auto calldown.

Re: I hate AQ so much. Hand vs Juanda, Niagara wpt
DVO,
usually you are right. but oop against a very very good player you arent going to be able to control the size of the pot, even if you want to. I mean look at what happened in this hand. Youve now check called twice with a marginal hand (and after checking the turn, im not sure thats wrong). So, if your primary goal in checking the turn is pot control, it hasnt worked. Now, if your primary intent is to enduce a bluff then JJ better be bluffing a lot, because you have put a heck of a lot of chips in this pot. Against a good aggressive player betting is actually better at controlling the pot, then checking is here because you are slightly over-repping your hand. Yes its very hard for him to call with a worse hand (but honestly how much more money are you making off of AJ anyway) but by betting you will actually put in less when you are behind than by checking. Id be more inclined to check if the board were less dry because it increases the chance that JJ has a hand he can bluff with (and also that he will check behind the turn and see a free river with a draw). But against this player, and with this board texture I think betting will control pot size more than checking will odd as it may seem. |

Re: I hate AQ so much. Hand vs Juanda, Niagara wpt
I would bet the turn, but I see what it's bad and this is a good post that has caused me to do quite a bit of thinking. I think his range here is pretty wide, and I would certainly play the river like you did. NH.
