Over here she is just another Jerry Springer tbh.

[/ QUOTE ]

How sure of that are you? To me, here in the US, she is just another Jerry Springer, but I'm aware that she's much more popular.

It's worth noting that Oprah makes around $250 million a year.

Horrible horrible answers in this thread. Oprah being one of the worst.

I think we need to define wtf "impact" is. Anybody famous will make for a [censored] of retarded new stories. Very few people will actually change anything.

[/ QUOTE ]

You strongly underestimate how much people worship Oprah.

tom hanks also came to mind for some reason.

[/ QUOTE ]

He will get treated the same way as Groucho Marx, Cary Grant and Gene Kelly when he dies. Old people (i.e. us)will be the ones who remember how great he was.

[/ QUOTE ]

Most of these are only relevant if they die like in the next few years while they're still "big". That's why I don't think Ali is a good answer, because his time is waaaaaaaay past. In fact, Paul McCartney probably wasn't a good choice by me even though John Lenon's death did fall into this category.

There is no singular person whose death will have an enormous impact on society. Impact to a smaller degree is felt by the death of anyone.

Yep. Just heard they cancelled all of tonight's NHL games and the CLE-BOS game over this. Not sure about college football or NBA pre-season.

Nelson Mandela is the one that will glue me to the television. Castro will be the most interesting in terms of seeing what will happen, along with Osama Bin Laden (I don't think OBL's death will change anything in the Arab world, but if it makes the US chill with the war on terror that would be a pretty big impact.)

[/ QUOTE ]
Mandela's death will have some serious social impact in South Africa, and therefore southern Sahara Africa. At least that's what most South Africans expect. He's one of the (probably the) main reasons why peace between the races in South Africa has been maintained for so long now.

But then again, most people won't give a rat's ass about SA.

You realize the Saraha is thousands of miles away from SA? Or do you mean everywhere south of the Sahara?
