What famous persons death will have an enormous impact on society?

Have we lost all of the "great ones"?

Frank Sinatra, Johnny Carson, Reagan, Pope John Paul, what icons are left?

Who's natural death will be front page news? Where we will be glued to the screen during the services?

I was trying to think of who out there who would get this sort of reaction, and sadly I can't really think of anyone.I really cant think of anyone, George Bush Sr? Fidel Castro? Regis Philbin?

None of those people you listed are that great in any way. I think the death of Castro will be the most meaningful just to see what happens afterwards.

I don't think Reagan's death had any impact on society. He had been effectively dead for years.

The Thai king's death will have a huge impact on the country and SE Asia but probably not the west.

do we mean "impact on society" or "people glued to the TV"?
I think they are pretty different things.

For the latter, Queen Elizabeth would have to rate up there I would think. That will be pretty big news of course and will rate up there with coverage of the pope's death in terms of TV coverage for much of the world.

For the former I really don't know.
I guess Castro's death will be interesting to see what happens to Cuba afterwards.
And Bin Laden perhaps somewhat too if/when that can be confirmed. Although I can't really say that Saddam's death had a truly huge impact on society and I think it might be stretching it to think that the world is going to suddenly be completely different if Bin Laden is killed.

It's reassuring to note that none of these deaths changed the world. Maybe a lot of people noted them, or were saddened because of them, but the course of history took little note.

It's nice to remember that actions in life are what changes the world.

CNN will decided whose death will have the most impact.
