To steal from a timid bring in, you just need to have been dealt cards. To continue though, you need some sort of hand either to show down or represent, which can be as little as a flushing board with overcards (though this not enough to try to bluff multiple opponents). If you have a crappy hand and an opponent who has shown he is unwilling to fold, don't keep putting money in. In SS, Chip Reese describes stealing on Third as a "one-shot play," meaning you try the steal and give up if you meet resistance. He is real smart and you should listen to him.

[/ QUOTE ] The probability is higher that one of them will have a pair of that particular rank. The overall chance of either having any pair is diminished, however.

Three cards in sequence are frequently OK, as long as your straight cards are live. Gapped three-straights can be OK in the right spots. A hand like AKx is pretty suspect. AK is a solid starting hand in Hold'em. You'll flop a pair about 1/3 of the time, and top pair/top kicker is frequently good enough to win. In stud, you're paying for cards one at a time, and one pair or two pair isn't going to hold up as often. I'll play AKx as a steal or limp in late with it, but it's nothing to get excited about. If AKx is a weak hand, where do you think that puts T85?
