So now the question is: how do I publicize the site and get my material read? I hooked up a site to track traffic and so far it's just been people who know me who have been reading for the most part.

Hi Despot,

Some ideas to get poker blog traffic... I have been regularly updating for 6 months or so now and here is where my visitors come from...

1 - Search Engines (25%), mainly google. Make sure you include keywords in your titles and text that people might be searching for. Make keywords in the text bold. Tag your posts with your main keywords.

2 - Return Visitors (25%)- Make articles with part #1 and #2 etc, write valuable content that gives people a reason to return. I give away a free eBook (its about low limit SNGs and took a good while to write), the eBook increases word of mouth traffic.

3 - Blog Links (20%)- link to other blogs and then ask them to provide a link back to you... best make sure you have a bit of content first. When you have 10 or so articles I will give you a link (my blog link in profile).

4 - Forums (15%) - Some allow sig links, most do not. As long as you are posting valuable contributions and not spamming then visitors will come...

5 - Misc (the rest), directories, comments on uTube, Digg, del.ic.ous, Yahoo Answers, etc etc etc

Hopefully enough to get you started!!

Cheers and GL, Mark

So, aggregating these not-quite-pro blogs is something I've had in the back of my mind for a while. So today I finally put it all together and put up http://lifeofpoker.com/ based on the planet backend used by a lot of large free software projects.

Its basically a blog aggregator, I put up TheDespot and Hollandicus to start (hope its ok with you guys) I guess I'll see if I get any other takers.

Hi Alieneyes,

I'm not comfortable with this to be honest. Would not mind you using the 1st paragraph of a couple of posts but not the whole thing please... can you please take Plan3t Gong off??

Cheers and GL with the venture,

Mark

Sure - the real way to limit it is to crop your feed. If you want to drive site traffic its the only way otherwise people will use blog lines etc. Removed your site.
