I don't like the idea of exposing pets to drugs.
None the less, I had a 1/2 simameese(sp?) cat that would hover in whatever area pot was being smoked. The cat actively sought the 2nd hand smoke, no lie. I had to berate a few hippies for blewing smoke at my cat, who obviously had a habit.
Also, never leave your weed exposed if a Lab dog is nearby. That line form "Cheech and Chong" about the Lab eating his weed is based in fact. Labs will eat your herb, all of it. I've seen it happen multilpe times to multiple friends/neighbors with Labs. I've never heard of it happening with another breed of dog.
For this reason alone, I will never own a Lab.

I started blowing weed hits at my girlfriend's kitty right after we got it and as she has grown up she loves it more and more. Most times when I get home from work and smoke a bowl she comes up and sits on my lap so I blow a few hits her way. Then she walks off and lays by the fire for awhile. What a life, I'm jealous...

FWIW, I've never heard of the blowing it in their ear thing, I've always just blown it in her face. She usually just sniffs a few times like she is smelling it, then sticks her tounge out a little as if tasting the smoke.

You guys who get mad about this kind of thing crack me up, my cat loves it as much as I do.
