i think the point that people are missing is that it was the owner who delivered the food, not the delivery person.

I'd definitely tip him. For some reason, the normal delivery dude wasn't available. The owner feels that customer service is important enough that he personally made the delivery instead of making OP wait even longer for his food. Seems worthy of a pretty good tip to me.

Thing is that it's always the owner I just never noticed until I had to go downstairs and get my food then went to eat in their restaurant for the lunch brunch.

The owner is the regular delivery guy...from the last 10+ times I ordered.

Okay, so what's your point then? Tip the delivery dude.

Well I did tip him on that occasion even though I was kinda shocked (read envious of his car)

But continuous good customer service made me order more...did I mention that he took our garbage to the garbage chute the other day? Now that's something you don't see everyday.

I was just wondering what other would have done...seems tipping is standard.

If it is the owner, OVERTIP. There are few things better in life than getting in good with the owner of your favorite restaurant. I've got two I'm in that situation with right now: a pizza joint and a ridiculously nice restaurant. At the pizza joint, I walk in at lunch with a dozen people in front of me, make eye contact with Frank, and he nods and gets my usual order for me right away. At the nice place, even when the owner isn't there, just by asking for him by name I get immediately better service from the waiter/waitress, and when he is there, I usually get a bottle of some new wine he has that he wants me to try, or something new they are trying out in the kitchen no charge.

I tip 20% rounded down in the restaurant, 10% rounded up on takeout or delivery. Car makes no difference.

For those of you who tip a percentage based on time, can you explain why? You realize the driver or waiter has very very very little to do with how quick you get your food.

BTW I tip at restraunts depending on how much effort the waiter is giving. And delivery people a pretty standard $3-5 unless its a huge order.

I never know how much to tip at Sonic. Usually it's whatever change I'm getting back, with a minimum of 25 cents. But the 17 year old chicks seem none too impressed.

What is balla to tip at Sonic? I want to be balla when I'm at Sonic.

[/ QUOTE ]

You are supposed to tip at sonic? Did not know this. Thought it was just a fast food joint.

[/ QUOTE ]

I would like to see others answer this.
