I know ya'll be half kidding, but, if you understand that the Eagles are the servants of the Gods, and that the Gods really aren't supposed to interfere, it makes much more sense. I guess they do only when its the last thing that can be done. (I havn't read Silmarillion in a while, but I'm pretty sure this was the case)

OP, this was on TV the other day and I had the same thought. I guess Han would have died trying to save him otherwise. At least he got to make out with his sister when the ordeal was over.

The thing that annoyed me is, iirc, Luke is said to be the leader of the rebel forces in the opening credits.. I mean, it was cool he blew up the death star and everything, but I don't see how that entitles him to lead thousands of people.
