Why is a flop bet > c/r?

Is there a big EV difference (assume std agression from LP)? What about checking and betting a good turn if it gets checked trough?

i'd rather just keep checking then and let him try to steal, as he bets any turn where he pairs up and he's folding if he's got nothing anyway.
