I also learnt this lesson the hard (i.e., costly) way. I would go one step further and suggest avoid using the words "check" and rase" when formulating the question. For example "have you acted?", "is it on me?", "is it my action?".

This is particularly important in my local games where both Swedish and English are spoken and not all players master both languages. My local casino even has several dealer who do not master Swedish; they know the words for check and raise but can struggle differentiating a question from a statement where both end with the same word. I realise this is probably not an issue for home games attended by people reading this forum but I think it's a useful habit even for US casinos.

What are the relevant swedish poker terms? Can you spell them phonetically in english for me? I am of swedish descent and I am curious.
