How common are deals / running it 2/3 times in cash games?

The only thing I have ever seen at a lower limit game was me and another player ai, top set vs oesfd. He asked if I just wanted to play for the middle and not our stacks behind when we got it all in. I dont really think this was allowed but nobody griped. Any similiar stories?

I actually think he may have been asking me if I wanted to run it twice but was ignorant to the term.
