(Do they even have the right to see my friends license, suppose it was my mom, would they ask for her license in that situation?).

Read this: http://blog.wired.com/27bstroke6/200...s_court_r.html

While its voluntary if they're requesting ID it sounds like he was demanding it from you since you had committed a 'crime.' I don't know if the wording would apply to a passenger refusing to ID himself here.

Last little paragraph:

And refusing to identify yourself when in the midst of a Terry stop can land you in jail, depending on your state's laws, according to a recent Supreme Court decision known as Hiibel. The story behind the cowboy who fought the law and lost in that case is here.

It's interesting, seems like it's dependant on state. But my friend didn't committ any crime (U-Turn). I was the driver, thus, I'm the responsible party for doing the U-Turn. He should be presumed innocent until proven guilty, and therefore, shouldn't be 'demanded' of a license. If I remember correctly, he asked me to see my friends license, and was trying to be convenient and said OK. But I still don't think he really should've asked that but whatever, cops can be demanding.

Why don't you think the cop should ask for your friends license?

Say you were in the same situation. You were driving down the highway, notice you are going wrong direction, so you use the U-Turn thingy on highways to turn around instead of travelling another 10 miles. Cop pulls you over. You've got your Grandmother in the passengers seat, and you turned around on the highway to pick up her medication at a store that was in the other direction. The Cop doesn't know this. But when he gets up to the window and asks for your license and registration, he asks for your Grandmothers license too.

Wouldn't you find that odd?

Maybe, but that's a completely different situation than 2 guys in a car, that were shuffling around before I got there, and the passenger has a bag he's trying to make unnoticeable with his feet.

The cop never saw any of that as it was dead as night. Also, cops are suppose to presume innocence before guilt. Fail.

So he didn't have his light on you at any point? Couldn't see your heads moving around? Looking down at stuff on the floor? And you were already guilty of a crime, and he could probably be considered an accomplice in the thinnest of definitions so you could both, concievably, be under the implications of a Terry stop at that point.
