Good show today, boys. People blowing up, players backing up, leaderboard changing every five seconds.

It had the feel of a major, whether it's the course, the field, etc. Or perhaps I have fallen for Gary Koch's incessant pimping of how tough "little" #17 is, or Johnny Miller going on about brutal #18. They're both correct, but they also apparently ran out of things to say so kept referencing these items.

In any event, tomorrow should be vewy interesting.

I read that Sabbatini's wife was wearing a shirt that said "Keep up!" in huge block letters. Excellent.

I think the greens being dried out has given it a US Open type feel the last 2 days. If you take out a few of the short par 4's this would play like a lot of the US Open courses that we have seen recently.

If Ames is up by 4 or 5 heading into the back 9, I will still be watching to see if he chokes on 17 & 18.

Let the back 9 chokejob begin.

Ames recovered pretty well after the double at 10. I'm surprised Goosen didn't make more of a charge though.

congratulations Stephen Ames, quite a win for him.

Wow, before this round I really had Ames labeled as a likely choker. Instead he put up one of the best rounds I have ever seen. Hats off to him.

Given how tough the course played today, I thought Goosen played pretty well down the stretch, with the exception of the approach at 15. He played well enough to beat the rest of the field by 2. Ames was just lights out better than everyone else.

I can't wait for the Masters. Woods better be on the leaderboard.

Does anyone else think that Vijay's left arm is way too parallel to the ground at the top of his swing?

yeah, after I posted that I realized I wasn't really giving Goose enough credit. his round was great, but right after Ames carded his double, Retief had a very makeable bird that he didn't convert. it really seemed like the wind fell out of his sails at that point. i thought that was where the momentum was really going to swing in Retief's favor.

but on a day when the field gets pounded and Ames plays to -5, you're right, there really just was no stopping him. I'm happy for him, he's always been one of my more favorite players. i'm glad he was able to bounce back after his exit at the match play.
