I think there are a lot of people who either don't know anything or can't remember anything. I'm constantly amazed at how many people can't remember events or famous people that did stuff in their lifetimes.

For example, a girl I know asked me who was president before Reagan, even though she was alive (although ages 5-8) when Carter was in the White House. I could understand if she was not born yet, or was very young, but WTF?

Or... I might understand if someone didn't remember that the Gulf War started in 1991, but who could have been alive and more than 6 years old then and not remember that Bush 41 was president when it happened?

I'm amazed at how many drivers don't know the left lane is for the faster cars.

I'm amazed at how many Americans don't know that Spanish was spoken across most of North America way before English.

I think it is ridiculous to assume everyone knows who Jerry Rice is. I have never heard of him prior to this post. American football is not popular in Norway, and i assume that way way less than 10% have any interest in this sport whatsoever.

People say that people who fly from Japan/China to New York/Boston area come "across the Pacific".

Just last week Michael Smith of ESPN said that Daisuke Matzusaka came "across the Pacific". He likely flew over Northern Alaska and Canada...much closer to the Arctic than the Pacific.

Also, people think that it's hotter in the Summer in the Northern Hemisphere because the Earth is closer to the sun, when in fact the Earth is actually about 3 million miles farther from the Sun in the summer. Either way it has little affect on the temperature.

Flat-Earthers we had a good chuckle about these folks in my 7th grade science class. Might not count since they argue against the idea of a round earth rather than being unaware of it. But still...

A friend of mine ran into a couple of girls in Prague that came from here (kansas) who didn't know that Leather (AND BEEF!) came from cows.
