Gregatron, Musial >>>>>>>> Brock Musial is an arguable top 10 all timer and easy top 20. [/ QUOTE ] Yeah, I will concede that. [making excuses]I've always kinda thought Brock was underrated though. [/making excuses] [ QUOTE ] EDIT: Also, Yadier Molina? WTF? [/ QUOTE ] I'm big on Yadi. I might be way off the mark here though, as I do get called out on this sometimes. Defensively he is VERY good, and is getting better. Offensively his numbers are FAR from great, but he is getting better. Plus I really like the guy, so my personal feelings are very likely clouding my judgment here, but I think he is both 1) and underrated player currently that will 2) get much better as he gets older. Plus, the Cardinals don't have a tradition of strong catchers like they do at other positions. I did find this page, and it seems pretty close to what I had overall though, in my defense. They have Brock in center. |

[ QUOTE ] Gregatron, Musial >>>>>>>> Brock Musial is an arguable top 10 all timer and easy top 20. [/ QUOTE ] Totally agreed. Musial is easily on the team. The only question is what position you put him in (he actually played more games at 1B than LF--1016 to 943. He also played 325 at CF and 750 at RF). [/ QUOTE ] oh I think you need to put him at LF and get Howard at 1b. |

I like Daulton over Lieberthal, but no biggie. Yea, there's no real controversy for Phillies all times. [/ QUOTE ] No question Daulton was more popular with the fans but Lieberthal hit for a higher avg with more power (lower OBP though). Also I tend to stay away from Darren because he is kindof crazy. |

While there are definitely differences in the OF spots, it's not like going for 1B to SS or anything. |

In '91 he put up a .310/.363/.529 In '94 .333/.402/.564 through 81 games. I probably could have put Killebrew there and Gaetti at 3rd, like I said, and Bob Allison probably is more deserving, but I think Shane Mack is awesome. /edit I thought Versalles was worse unless we are just taking peak seasons. [/ QUOTE ] Versalles: .242/.290/.367 career, 1 ALMVP, 2 GGs Gagne: .254/.302/.382, 0 GGs HOWEVER, #2 on the "Most similar to" list for Versalles is Neifi Perez, which should be an auto-DQ. |

also for the brewers: no bj surhoff at catcher? [/ QUOTE ] Good point. It was close and probably could go either way. Surhoff was better offensively, but had by far his best hitting years with Baltimore (except for his last year with Milwaukee). Moore was better defensively and had a cannon for an arm. He played more years with Milwaukee, more years as primarily a catcher, and contributed to their really good teams in the early 80's. Oh, and btw, I used a DH in the lineup because the Brewers were an AL team for longer than they've been an NL team. |

[ QUOTE ] [ QUOTE ] Cincinnati Reds 1. Barry Larkin - SS 2. Pete Rose - 3B 3. George Foster - LF 4. Ken Griffey Jr. - CF 5. Johnny Bench - C 6. Joe Morgan - 2B 7. Tony Perez - 1B 8. Frank Robinson - RF 9. Tom Seaver - P [/ QUOTE ] Morgan, Seaver, and Griffey are disqualified based on rule #2. [/ QUOTE ] Ok, I'll give you Griffey and Seaver since their best years were with other teams, but Morgan's primary team in the HOF is listed as the Red's, and I'm keeping him. Center field would be Edd Roush, but he's a real old timer (quit playing in 1931). The Red's have never had great pitching - without reaching back to the turn of the century for Noodles Hahn, the best I could come up with is Mario Soto or Joe Nuxall. Who would you pick? [/ QUOTE ] That's a pretty good group. I'd keep most of those players but mixup the lineup, put Morgan at leadoff, Larkin 2nd, move Rose down in the order, and put Roush in for Griffey and move him down, and maybe move up Robinson too. Even if Griffey qualified, I wouldn't put him in the lineup because he hasn't been good enough while playing for the Reds. As for SP, the Reds haven't been strong on pitching in their history, and have only one Hall of Fame pitcher. I'd pick between Ewell Blackwell, Eppa Rixey, Bucky Walters, Don Gullett, Mario Soto, and Jose Rijo. |
