Default Re: How\'s the U.S. Government performed over the last 200 years? *DELETED*

A Poli-Sci teacher of mine used to end these arguments with the statement that "the proof's in the puddin."

That the 'best' country/political system, was the one people were willing to risk their lives in an old rickety boat to get to (or squeeze through fences).

Maybe there is some ideal form of civilization that is far superior to anything we know of. But I don't think it's fair to conclude that because one system isn't acting up to it's designed potential, the entire system is flawed.

It's possible that this Totalitarian-Anarchist Party, or whatever it's called, might work for a group of people whose nature was best adapted to it, but it might not. We all know that a perfect government for a perfect people - would be no government at all. But until people are perfect we'll be stuck with one form of government or anarchy.

The American Revolution was fought to establish a form of government that would protect the rights of, and promote the interests of its citizens. Has it failed in it's objective? Well it depends on if you view it as an event or as a process.

The Founding Fathers were under no delusion that the battle had been won. In fact if you read what they had to say on the matter, when the War ended the real battle was just beginning. They simply did their best to provide a terrain in which the battle could be eventually won.

What the Founding Fathers were aware of that seems to have been forgotten, is that the battle for personal liberty is fought against tyranny. And whether that tyranny shows up internally as big-business or a political party - or abroad, it would be up to future generations to engage it. And they put a system of government in place that they felt was best suited to that task.

Judge the system how you like, but don't forget it's intents and purpose. Any system that doesn't account for the presence of tyranny - ensures it's people enslavement.

When you cut through all the rhetoric, this country was founded for one reason only, that the Founding Fathers were well aware of and 6000 years of recorded history has proven unequivocably true: Tyranny knows no restraint of appetite.
