If for some reason you haven't already read it, A Game Of Thrones, by George R.R. Martin, along with the entire series of Song of Fire and Ice is a fantastic read.

Just finished "The Five People You Meet in Heaven", by Mitch Albom. Great quick read, I highly recommend it. I don't read much and happened to randomly stumble upon this book (was looking for a cookbook). I was pleasantly surprised.
I didn't know this was a movie... LOL, wow. |

Weirdly enough, one of the (two?) passages for my AP Lit test in high school was from McCarthy's The Crossing. Those few paragraphs, probably less than a page total, were good enough that I picked the book up, and haven't looked back since. So, yeah, big recommendation from me.

under the frog by tibor fischer . It's hard to stress enough how great a book i think this is, especially given how little known it is. Without doubt one of my top 5 of all time. It's the novelisation of Fischer's (grand?)father who played on a basketball team in communist hungary. There are a lot of other good books i could recommend but to name just one, which is likely new to people and that i woud strongly recommend, this is it.

I didn't think I would like the series, but I too loved it. Just finished reading "The Historian." Really good novel based on Dracula. Must read. Also check out Dan Brown's "Digital Fortress." [/ QUOTE ] The first two Harry Potter books sucked. Then the more recent ones have been pretty good. I have read the first 100 pages of the Historian, and it's been left at the bottom of my pile of semi-read books. I don't think it'll leave it anytime soon - it's boring. I have an urgent need to punch Dan Brown in the face. |

Under the Frog added to my Amazon list of things to buy Dec 1st (I spend like $200 per month at Amazon).
My favourite three books, in no particular order: Pattern Recognition, William Gibson (not cyberpunk) The Shadow of the Wind, Carlos Ruiz Zafon Norwegian Wood, Haruki Murakami Also, I really liked "The Player of Games" by Iain M Banks. And most the books by most the authors in this post. |

the fountainhead by aynn rand. [/ QUOTE ] What did you think of Atlas Shrugged? I mean, I found it quite interesting, but it didn't half drag on. It needed to lose about 400 pages. Is The Fountainhead any better? I only read Atlas Shrugged as I made a deal with my boss that we'd swap books and we had to read them. I gave him a Noam Chomsky book. It was about a year ago and he hasn't finished it yet (Atlas Shrugged was his favourite ever book) |
