If there is a God, would baptism work if you don't believe in it?

[ QUOTE ]
if my son was 100% italian and i decided i didnt want him baptized my parents would think it was wrong. forget about being mixed. they think a child should have some identification with a religion. [/ QUOTE ] Who's kid is it? Will they love him less if he isn't baptised? Will they hold it against him? I wouldn't alter the way I raise my kid just to appease my parents. Their hearts are likely in the right place, but they shouldn't push the issue. They should respect your decision. They had their kids. Now it's your turn. b |

what variety of ways. [/ QUOTE ] read only part of the thread but many biracial children have trouble adapting and finding their identify. adolescence can be a particularly tough time for any child. that's when they form their sense of self identify and their peer groups become particularly important. in elementary school kids can generally hang out w/ whomever they please and race is not an issue. by junior high, there is generally a divide and most kids start forming social networks and race comes into play and divides these groups. at this point, your child will most likely grapple with the question of who what race he associates more with. whatever peer group he chooses, he will be abandoning a part of him that identifies w/ the other race. add to this he wont feel fully accepted by the peers he chooses to hang out w/ because he will be different. this is probably the most difficult issue many biracial kids deal w/ although there are other things they encounter along the way. |

Obviously this is an issue with the people who told you that "it will be tough on him in the future". If you care so much about what they think - let them raise your kid.
Otherwise do what *you* think is right for your son... and always do you think is right for your kid. |

I think I have a huge problem with indoctrinating a little kid into a cult.
