With low GPAs, consider getting an internship. Do well, and get hired on full-time. If you don't care about money, then you shouldn't care about a lower paying internship.

I don't know where this assumption that a job makes you happy is coming from. A good job is important, and feeling that you are doing something valuable is important, but this can be attained in other ways.

Learn to use the freedom you have to your advantage. Give back to others (charity, invest time). I think we all get very selfish (myself especially) and I find that when I give back or even just give, I feel 100 times better than when I give myself something.
