[ QUOTE ] [ QUOTE ] The God Delusion by Richard Dawkins [/ QUOTE ] Please elaborate, this looks like an interesting book. [/ QUOTE ] I'm reading this as well...It's excellent. Dawkins' arguements do an extremely convincing job showing the absurdities of relgion and debunking the arguments of its supporters. I'm only about 80 pages in, but he seems to cover anything you could think of on any given topic. I've read a couple other books on atheism and this is my favorite so far. -Craig [/ QUOTE ] Someone linked a couple of videos by Dawkins sometime back. They were fantastic. Gonna have to pick up that book. In one of those videos he gets kicked off the property of some mega-church. Turns out it was by that preacher that was recently busted for meth and phagessness. |

I am currently reading Blood Meridian by Cormac McCarthy. The prose is amazing, he flows thoughts and sentences together so fluid, the whole thing is poetry but very nasty things happen. If Whitman were alive today writing westerns it would probably come out something like this. [/ QUOTE ] Seconded. I just took this out a few days ago, and it's a pretty good read. Very violent/graphic sometimes, but it's never just a blood for the sake of blood kind of a thing. I'm going to check out McCarthy's "All the Pretty Horses" next. |

See no Evil by Robert Baer. Syriana was at least partly based on this. About 50 pages in, it is so-so. [/ QUOTE ] I thought this was a terrific read. Keep going. Dan (though I still can't figure out the connection to Syriana...they're really using "based on" loosely these days) |

I just finished a novel called "Extremely Loud and Incredibly Close" by Jonathan Safran Foer. Here's a link to the book on Amazon.
I really recommend this. It's a great story, with fascinating characters, particularly the main character a 9 year old boy who's father was killed on 9/11. |

McCarthy does some great work. [/ QUOTE ] Awesome suggestions. "No Country for Old Men" by McCarthy was riveting. I just read a biography of Dwight Eisenhower by Ambrose that was pretty good if you like that sort of thing. |

About 3 months ago I began reading the Dirk Pitt novels written by Clive Cussler. I started with the first book (The Mediterranean Caper) written in the late 70's and I am about half-way through the series. Not bad if you like action/adventure.

I am currently reading coyotes by ted conover, an excellent book about illegal immigrants coming over from mexico. he spends a year working with them.
another excellent book by ted is "newjack", where he works as a prison guard at sing-sing for a year. his first book, "rolling nowhere", is next on my list. it's about modern day hobos riding the rails, and was written while he was still in college! |
