Favorites:
Edgar's double in the ALDS. Neihaus at his best. In 97 when the Cougs finally made it to the Rose Bowl. It's not really a call, it's just the color guy totally losing it and spazzing out with glee in the both with Bob Roberston tries to play the consumate professional. A recent favorite: Joe Morgan calling a guy "clearly safe" on a stolen base and then 2 minutes of dead air after the replay shows him clearly out. |

H.Callas belting it out for M.J.Schmidt's 500th HR is tops imo. Too lazy to find a clip but there has to be one out there.

"Secretariat is widening now, he is moving like a tremendous machine." Youtube link [/ QUOTE ] That one gave me chills, as well as the Al Michaels "Do you believe in miracles." also, even though howard cosell isn't my favorite guy, "Down goes Frasier! Down Goes Frasier!" |

Al Michaels "Do you believe in Miracles?" is #1 for me
[censored] Joe Buck. His call may have been good on the Ortiz HR, but he spent half his air time in the 2003 and 2004 playoffs talking about curses. As for Castiglione, I recall running to grab a radio just to listen to his call at the end. I was also disappointed at the time, but after reflecting on it, I think it would have been cheesy if he tried to turn into someone else for that call. I've tried thinking about what I would have said, and it probably would have been some sort of take on the famous SOSH "win it for..." thread, but I think it may have come off as a little fake had Castiglione done it. The fact was that game 4 and the WS in general were pretty anti-climatic and his call was in line with that. |

This is obviously totally obscure, but it is still my favorite.
At Suffolk Downs one afternoon sometime in the 80's. There was this mid-level claimer named Greek Way in the race. As the horses turn into the backstretch and Greek Way is in the lead, track announcer Jim Hannon says: "They go up the backside with Greek Way on top." |

Jon Miller is great, especially on the radio. I like when his voice cracks on a big play ("Saaaayyyfe!") or when something unexpected happens and he breaks suddenly from his soothing delivery into scream mode.
Back in the mid 80s on an Orioles broadcast of a game at the Metrodome, he called a play something like "And it's hiiigh fly ball to center field...Shelby over to his left, looking up...AND THE BALL LANDS FIFTY FEET AWAY FROM HIM!" Good stuff. |
