[ QUOTE ]
Just my 2 cents but I get tired of the implication that always comes out when a critical favorite gets rejected by the mass audience. Which is that high pedigree yet ultimately crap shows must be too "difficult" for us unsophisticated viewers. [/ QUOTE ] JFC was not really a critical favorite--metacritic score of 51/100. |

The show has been canceled.
http://www.cnn.com/2007/SHOWBIZ/TV/0...eut/index.html My favorite part of the short article: "For the few devoted fans of the show...the mysterious final line in the season finale -- John saying, "Mother of God, Cass-Kai" over a shot of Kai (Keala Kennelly) surfing -- will remain just that, a mystery." Dammit! That is the part that will remain a mystery? Just when I had figured out everything else! EDIT: I said this after the first episode, and still believe it, despite the show's failure: Ed O'Neill should be up for an Emmy. He was insanely awesome. |

from zap2it:
[ QUOTE ] 'John From Cincinnati' Wipes Out Mitch Yost is out of the game. [...] The network does, however, want to keep Milch in the fold. According to The Hollywood Reporter, HBO is talking with Milch, who also created "Deadwood," about extending a development deal that currently runs through next year. He reportedly has several new projects in mind. What all that means for the long-awaited, still-technically-alive "Deadwood" movies is, like most things related to the planned wrapup of the series, up in the air. [...] It started off with fairly solid ratings following the finale of "The Sopranos" in June, but the audience tailed off in subsequent weeks. HBO has yet to make a decision on its other new series, the cult comedy "Flight of the Conchords." [/ QUOTE ] |

I love the show, and I thought the finale wasa bit uneven. They never really developed Mitch enough to make me care about him, and he just sucked up screen time.
The biggest fault with this show was that the most enjoyable characters weren't the leads. I wanted payoff for the doctor, more for Dickstein, for Barry (wtf with his pet zombie). I get what happened with the Yosts and Stinkweed and why that's important, but that's not really the part of the show I love. |

The show has been canceled. http://www.cnn.com/2007/SHOWBIZ/TV/0...eut/index.html [/ QUOTE ] that's too bad, but i can see why most people wouldn't have the patience to find the meaning in the show. i liked the style of it, but also agree that many of the characters were down right unlikeable. |

I liked this show and am sad to see it go. Hopefully Milch being freed up means more Deadwood somehow!

There were about 7 or 8 characters who seemed to be hanging around without much to do. They didn't contribute to the development of the plot, and Milch's attempts at writing them into the story to justify their existences severely slowed things down.
Plus, it bears repeating: HOLY [censored] THAT KID COULD NOT ACT. He was so bad that it was hugely distracting. |

I am really upset that this show is cancelled and I will never find out what was happening. I love shows that make you think and this one sure did that.
