You SHOULD be able to estimate any distance on the golf course within 20 yards.

[/ QUOTE ]

I guess that this is the problem for me. I am just a horrible judge of distance - beyond 200 yards, I think I can consistently peg yardages to 40 yards at best. Add in an elevation factor and that number probably goes way up.

People who don't find that hilarious take golf AND themselves WAY TOO SERIOUSLY...

this is the correct anwser. it's just a game, not a friggin dissertation.

I totally disagree. What if they replaced the 100 yard marker with one that said "OMG you're so close just hit it!" It's basically the same thing. You want to know how far you are and you expect them to tell you but they decided to write that instead.

Plus, you can have BOTH something funny and the yardage. Bam! Both problems solved.

This made me laugh, I've never seen it before:

I have seen one of these before and it read "cab ride." It is very funny. And no big deal because it was about 280 yards out and you could see the 250 disc clearly up ahead.

As for the secondary discussion, I play a lot of public golf courses and most need to be marked better. I used to be a 'just hit it as far as you can on the second shot on a par-5 guy.' Now I pay attention to layup yardages and angles into the green - and 75 yards vs. 100 yards vs. 120 yards can be very important.

The difference between an approach shot from 100yds to 120yds is way more than you're suggesting

[/ QUOTE ]

I submit that if you're that worried about yardage, then a 100 yard shot SHOULDN'T be that much different than a 120 yard shot.

[/ QUOTE ]

This is so stupidly false...everyone has a 'favorite' yardage to hit approach shots from...even PROS. So, it DOES matter if you want to know where to lay up to 'your' yardage.

An excellent one. I just don't think the original is something worth being annoyed at.

I just don't think the original is something worth being annoyed at if you're just a hack who doesn't care about layup yardages and stuff .

Which 99% of golfers are. Just so happens that the .05% of golfers who aren't hacks, and who also don't have a sense of humor, are posting in this thread (although I have no idea if Evan is a hacker or not).
