The Phillies by position. Sadly you don't have to have been a Phillies fan for long to have seen most of these guys:

C Mike Lieberthal
1B Ryan Howard
2B Chase Utley
3B Mike Schmidt
SS Jimmy Rolins
LF Ed Delahanty
CF Cy Williams
RF Chuck Klein
LHP Steve Carlton
RHP Grover Cleveland Alexander

Maybe Schilling in place of Alexander. Sadly most of these positions aren't even debateable. Maybe Luzimski in LF since Delahanty played pre 1920.

Here are the ground rules:

1. Each player must play his own primary position. No putting Mantle/Dimaggio in the same lineup because they were both primarily center fielders.

[/ QUOTE ]

Why? Any manager with half a brain, and access to Dimaggio, Mantle, Ruth, and everyone who has played LF in the history of the Yankees would start Dimaggio at CF, Ruth at RF, and Mantle at LF and forget everyone else.

I can understand how you don't want to move the IF positions around or interchange OF and IF, but any good CF would also be a good LF.

Rubeskies: Charlie Keller? Bob Meusel? Rickey Henderson?

I think some of these 'majority' rules are kinda screwed up - a player should have played his BEST years in the city.

also for the brewers: no bj surhoff at catcher? also for the royals, how about john wathan?

Perhaps, but that's not the game we're currently playing.

Besides, I'd take a young Mantle in CF and move Joe D. to LF!

Good call on Meusel and Keller over Matsui. Henderson as an all-time Yankee might be a stretch.

Cincinnati Reds

1. Barry Larkin - SS
2. Pete Rose - 3B
3. George Foster - LF
4. Ken Griffey Jr. - CF
5. Johnny Bench - C
6. Joe Morgan - 2B
7. Tony Perez - 1B
8. Frank Robinson - RF
9. Tom Seaver - P

[/ QUOTE ]

Morgan, Seaver, and Griffey are disqualified based on rule #2.

[/ QUOTE ]

Ok, I'll give you Griffey and Seaver since their best years were with other teams, but Morgan's primary team in the HOF is listed as the Red's, and I'm keeping him. Center field would be Edd Roush, but he's a real old timer (quit playing in 1931). The Red's have never had great pitching - without reaching back to the turn of the century for Noodles Hahn, the best I could come up with is Mario Soto or Joe Nuxall. Who would you pick?

I'd take Soto but in a couple years I might take Harang.

Dimaggio was one of the best defensive CFs of all-time. No way I'd put anyone there ahead of him.

How about Ruth to LF and Mantle in RF?

I think you had it right the first time.
