Pretty sure good QBs do more to make their receivers look good (stats wise) then vice versa.

This is utterly incorrect.

I don't know how you can say either way if one is utterly incorrect.

I've been thinking about a recent example in 2005.

Coles goes back to the Jets and catches like 70 balls. The guy usually catches 85-90. So are you saying that he just ran his routes bad that year? I don't buy that. He had Brooks Bollinger and an off the couch Vinny throwing him pases all year. The very next year Pennington is back and plays 16 games and guess what happens. Coles catches 90 balls again.

I really don't know if you can say emphatically that one is correct or not.

[/ QUOTE ]

The Jets ran a different offense with Pennington than they did with Vinny/Brooks. They also did not have the same running game (lack of any Curtis Martin) this past year, changing their playcalling tendencies. You could argue Coles numbers got padded due to garbage time catches as well.

Since there are more intangibles, I'll take back the 'utterly' from my post, as you do have a good point.

PPH,

Yeah the Jets did have different offense in 2006 (a decent one) than they did in 2005 (a terrible one). The running game was actually much better in 2006 than in 2005. Even without Curtis the Jets ran the ball 100 times more in 2006 than in 2005.

FWIW, the Jets attempted approximately the same number of passes in both seasons.

I think you missed the point. I didn't say having good receivers doesn't help... just that the QB is more important then the receivers...

Marino never really had great receivers. For most of his career Elway didn't either. Favre didn't have great receivers. Brady and McNabb (with the exception of TO for a bit) have never had great receivers.

Of coarse it does matter, but a Great QB + average receivers > great receivers + average QB...

/edit and back on the topic of this thread, supposedly Keyshawn was looking for 12m/2yr
