Re: rumor mill: A-Rod to Angels a possibility
[ QUOTE ]
Anybody else think that whoever pays A-Rod next year is going to take a huge bath on the deal? Perhaps last year wasn't a fluke, and he's just slowing down with age. [/ QUOTE ] Last year wasn't a fluke, at least the general regression isn't. That being said, he's still worth quite a bit in today's market at his current contract rate. If he exercises his opt-out clause, then he'll be vastly overpaid for sure. |

Re: rumor mill: A-Rod to Angels a possibility
everyone saying a-rod would be a one-year rental for the angels: do you have teh down? no way they trade for him without an extension. a-rod would have to approve the trade and accept an extension as well, or agree to a new contract altogether.
this trade ain't gonna happen. a-rod won't go, the yankees won't leave that kinda hole in their order, and if he DID want to go, the angels could get him this winter without giving up three young players. he's going to cash in on an extension/new deal whether he approves a trade or opts out this winter. if this deal was getting done it would have happened in january. the only thing that could make this happen is if a-rod blows goats in ny this year, they are like six or eight games back at the ASB, their pitching falls apart and jeter's colon gets perforated in a 'clubhouse prank.' even then it wouldn't be a sure thing. |

[/ QUOTE ] the trib is not going to pony up the money to sign arod on the open market. the only way he ends up on the cubs is if he gets traded to them. |
