Fastest car in a straight line: Corvette Z06 (2000-ish, as the other poster said). Not debateable, not close.

The Evo or STi are certainly the fastest cars you can buy in this price range, in terms of dollars per performance metric. Not everyone likes the "boy racer" look that some might try to paint the owners with though (before someone flames me, as a former Evo owner, I'm not bashing it at all)
Outside of the japanese turbocharged tuner cars, an early model e46 M3 is going to be the fastest sports sedan in this price range, especially so if you're opening up your range. Another to consider is the early Audi S4 (the 2.7T engine). A little bit of work under the hood (even as simple as chip + intake/filter) and you've got quite a fast car at a cheap price. The TL is a sharp car, but its not really a sports car and isn't in the same league as either the M3 or S4 in speed. The 350Z isn't a bad option, mostly because the bottom dropped out of the secondary market and the cars are available very cheap right now. Its not quite as fast and certainly not as versitile, but is a good amount of car for the money right now (used, of course). As others have pointed out, outside of taking a tuner car and modifying it, the best performance bang for your buck is by far the Corvette Z06. They're definately not for everyone, though - and if you're not really buying the car primarily for speed, as in you're going to be tracking the car a lot - I wouldn't go that direction. They're 90% engine and 10% everything else, so the overall quality outside of the engine is pretty mediocre across the board. |

Anyone have any experience with the 350z? If it's just amazing I can probably deal with it being a two-seater. [/ QUOTE ] I have some experience. This is mine: ![]() |

Honda S2000, although it's a 2-seater, fits all your other requirements. One of the purest driver's cars out there.

Get the Z, it is probably one of the best, if not the best cars for the price
