Looks pretty shady there. Good luck battling the moss and keeping the grass healthy.

Yeah, the shade is a bastard. I plan on tearing off the siding of the duplex and replacing them with mirrors. I'm also gonna build a giant bat signal so it shines through to my lawn during certain parts of the day.

How much more expensive would sod have been?

Good luck. Lawn maintenance consumes me in the summer. I had it looking so good this year. Now we're on a hot/dry streak and it's taking a beating.

Second, you would have been better off to just Round-up the entire planting area, let everything die, and then aeriate or till the hell out of it before applying any topsoil or grass seed. No reason to spend time digging up the weeds unless you're trying to scrape the ground of crappy soil at the same time. Since you came over the top with additional soil, there was no need to dig it up. Round-up breaks down within a few days and you can seed right over the top.

ive sprayed roundup on my lawn in the past and realize how much better the organic products are now. im of the school of thought that compost will be much better for lawn than any chemicals. compost will aerate the lawn naturally and keep a good ph balance for the lawn which in turn prevents most weeds from growing.

i put compost on my entire lawn a few months ago (good size lawn for around $80 w/ delivery charge too) and it should be good for around 3 years. it is kicking ass right now (yeah im old to be concerned about such things).

phresh,

please move into one of my rentals and be my tenants. did you pay for all of this out of pocket?

your fence post is only buried around 1' deep instead of 2' in this picture. it looks like new fence posts so it probably wont affect you when they blow down prematurely.

I'm totally confused by this post. My impression of you is like 18 year old skate punk, and now you own a home (or is this the folk(s) home?) and do landscaping.
