Redoing My Lawn - Quick Trip Report w/ Pictures

I currently live in a small duplex with a piece of crap yard. It'd look decent, but it's covered in moss and has a million patches of crab grass. I decided to apply moss killer and tear up the grass and redo everything.

This is what the yard looked like, but with much more moss.

The grass, weeds, dirt and moss took up 5 full garbage cans. They each weigh about 200-250lbs I'd say.

80 bags of top soil. It ran me about $180.

This is the lawn after I tore the grass out. Notice the crappy dirt and tree roots.

The first row of top soil. Looking nice. It's very easy to take out of the bag and smooth over. I just cut 4 slices into the bag and flip it. Basically I'm Einstein.

Halfway point.

Doing what I do best, looking like a [censored]. Edit: Judging by how dumb I look in the picture, guess what censored word I called myself.

Aaaaand we're done.

I still have 22 bags left. I'll update with a picture once I distribute the grass seed and have an awesome lawn.

I've never done anything like this. Will you end up with one of those television lawns? Basically perfect green grass?

Hope it turns out well.

Also, how does the crappy soil affect things? If you have a couple inches of topsoil, but then trashy soil below it, will that hinder things in a few months?

Grass is like television.

It really serves no purpose but for some reason people are fascinated by it, and want it to look pretty.

It's harder for grass to grow in [censored] soil apparently. The 2" of top soil is supposed to be enough for the grass to grow in.

I'm not fascinated by it or anything, but a nice lawn is awesome. Walking around in comfortable grass feels nice on your feet. It'll also be cool to have a BBQ out there once it's nice.

Not really, assuming that the soil underneath isn't that crappy. The grass' roots don't go that deep, and as long as you fertilize and aerate regularly the grass will have plenty of nutrients.
