Start walking, your body needs to get in shape. Walk the miles you want to jog. Go see your doctor and get him/her to recomend good kneebraces. Buy some good running shoes. Give it a week or two if youre walking three miles start to walk 2 and jog the last one.

[/ QUOTE ]Precisely.

if you want to avoid the strain of running, my dad was quite over weight about 14 years ago, probably around where you are, and he started walking twice a day, now hes lost probably 60-80 pounds, he started when he was in his late 40's so anyone can do it, just gotta be persistent

Speaking as an ex-cross country and half-marathon runner, I can tell you that jogging is bad for your knees, ankles, hips, and back. Being a fatass only compounds the damage.

Interestingly enough, you'll lose more fat, and have more energy, if you sprint instead of jog. Quicker, too.

More non-sense. There are studies(Stanford study being one of the more famous) that show the average non-runner suffers 4 times as much knee pain and/or disability compared to runners. Runners also have greater bone density and less mineral loss. Most pain is caused from poor fitting shoes, bad form, poor training. Sports like soccer and basketball are far worse on your joints because of the twisting and tearing.
