How is wanting sexual gratification without the "natural" downside(pregnancy) irrational? How is wanting sexual gratification in one's prefered manner irrational?
When the same sex marriage legalization debate was in full force in Canada, people opposed it using the slippery slope argument that it would result in the legalization of polygamy, bestiality, and incest. Although this argument was completely fallacious, am I to expect that a large number of conservative christian Canadians will mirror Peter666's disappointment in the continued illegality of the aforementioned acts? |

You can use all the rethoric you like, I still don't understand what the man-made concept of marriage has to do with natural/unnatural, rational/irrational.
Is a marriage that does not result in children against the natural laws? Should they also be forbidden? Who decides what is rational/irrational? |

"Marriage IS a human construct."
"That depends on what your definition of the word IS IS." Sorry, I could not resist. |

As a libertarian I believe you people should be able to marry whomever or whatever you want to as long as you can prove consent. Unlike other "liberals" I don't discriminate against polygamists because they are associated with something I despise. Liberals don't like religion- they do like hedonism however.
My advice, therefore, is for Mormons, Muslims, and wohever else to start pretending that they are simply "sexually liberated" and would like to have multiple marriages for this reason only. If you just got rid of the religion part, I bet liberals would be lining up to help you marry Sue, Jane, and your pet goat. As it stands I'm already all for it. |

Rational and irrational is dictacted by our use of reason in conjuntion with nature. That's what ethics is all about. As society creatures, we have no choice but to conduct ourselves in most fitting way for the common good.

Pure hedonism is an attack on society either by commission or ommision, and sexual libertarianism is an attack on the family, which is the basis of a society.
The only logical conclusion is to live rationally and ethically. If this for whatever reason cannot be attained, than the second best choice is to invoke pure libertarianism for everybody. What we have now in Canada is tyranny. |

Me too. Either him or John Derek.
Then again, Woody Allen said he wasn't sure if he believed in reincarnation, but if there was such a thing, he wanted to come back as Warren Beatty's fingertips. |

Marriage is not a man-made concept, it is a child-made concept -- and as such, highly valued.
The man-made side of marriage is property rights, spousal-support, monogamy, infidelity, etc. The man-made side of marriage is meaningless. |

Since you didn't reply on pvns post, but instead choose to change the subject, shall we understand that as you now agree that there are distinct differences between polygamy and same-sex marriage? Differences that does make it very possible to be pro one and against the other without being hypocritical.
