Re: What are your all time favorite announcers\' calls?
Hank Aaron's 715th HR by Milo Hamilton: "Here's the pitch by Downing... swinging... there's a drive into left-center field... that ball is gonna beeee... OUTTA HERE! IT'S GONE! IT'S 715! There's a new home run champion of all time... and it's HENRY AARON!"
Couple of good Rangers one's from '94. Howie Rose on the radio: "Matteau! Matteau! Matteau! Stephane Matteau! And the Rangers have one more hill to climb baby!" But I liked Sam Rosen when they one the cup: "The waiting is over! The New York Rangers are Stanley Cup Champions! And this one will last a lifetime!" |

Re: What are your all time favorite announcers\' calls?
Yeah, Castiglione's call when the Red Sox won the World Series was REALLY unspectacular.
I understand he's not that enthusiastic a lot of the time. But it seemed pretty obvious that he had already decided mostly on what he was going to say. And to get to pre-plan such a major call and then come up with practically nothing is pretty bad. ALL of New England are absolutely losing their minds and everyone up there has chills as they are witnessing something they felt like they would NEVER get to see and would only get to keep dreaming about....something that their parents and grandparents never saw and only could imagine.... and Castiglione sounds like someone slipped him a couple sleeping pills. His call didn't sound much more dramatic or meaningful than getting to say in the middle of June, "And that's the final out and the Red Sox win 7-2 to extend their longest win-streak of the year to 5 games." That call was incredibly disappointing. About McGwire's 70th HR....not interested in trying to find it right now but I'm pretty sure that poster is referring to Mike Shannon's call. He actually sounds somewhat similar to Jack Buck but this one was Shannon. Shannon can get pretty excited sometimes. |

Pretty sure you were responding to my post and not the poster that you actually replied to, so I'll respond.
I'm glad someone agrees with me about Castiglione, it was just bad. Whenever I hear it at the start of a radio game, I just stare at the radio dumbfounded. Thanks for the info, it probably was Dave Shannon. I'm too tired to look for it now, but I'll search later. Almost certain it wasn't Jack Buck. |

Al Michaels, "Do you believe in miracles? Yes!" [/ QUOTE ] Always causes chills. My g/f and I went to Lake Placid last weekend for the Ironman Triathlon and we sat in Herb Brooks Arena, where the Miracle On Ice occurred. It was very cool to be that up close to history. Lake Placid is beautiful, btw. |

[/ QUOTE ] Scully's call of this home run is much better, plus Hamilton had written out what he wanted to say and then didn't even read it right. Milo sucks and always has. Scully: "What a great moment for Aaron! What a great moment for the Braves! What a great moment for baseball, as thousands of fans give a standing ovation to a black man in the heart of the Deep South!" |

Most's call of Bird's steal and DJ's layup against the Pistons is also classic ("What a play by Bird"). [/ QUOTE ] I remembered that someone posted this when DJ passed. One of my favorites too. Most's Call |
