I voted Libertarian in '04.

That said, if my dad hadn't gone through all of the trouble to send me the absentee ballot, I wouldn't have voted.

I understand the point that voting is essentially taking part in an oppressive system, but I think it's a better argument for why the system sucks in the first place. By not voting, it just seems to me like you're allowing yourself to be further oppressed (to a negligible degree though). I don't accept the argument that not voting limits the political capital of lawmakers. People like Borodog understand this stuff much better than I do, so I'm sure it's right, I just can't quite accept it. To me it seems like you have to accept the system for what it is in order to change it. You can't overthrow a tyrannical dictator without acknowledging (and working to usurp) his authority. I feel like you can't eliminate our tyranny of the majority without acknowledging that voting (for the least oppressive candidates) is a necessary evil. I feel like the only other option is taking on the U.S. military, and that wouldn't work so well with all of the available funding from IRS theft.

Just my two cents.

I voted libertarian in '04.

If there was a good enough republican candidate I could fathom voting for them, but none in the last several elections would qualify.

I liked GWB's ownership society platform from 2000, or at least what I remember of it.

Why do I get the feeling I'm more mature at 21 than you are at, what, 45?

Questioning someone's competence because he doesn't share your own political ideology is pretty awesome.

Violence and irrationality should not be rewarded. Uncritical respect is not a virtue.
