Was Cheers better with Shelly Long or Kirstie Alley?

I think the actual quality of the episodes was very similar -- IMO, the change didn't make the show as a whole better or worse. As for which one I preferred on the show, that'd be Kirstie Alley by a hair.

For my money, Cheers is the most reliably good sitcom I've ever seen, as it rarely fell into the abyss on shows that most do frequently and even some true greats, like Taxi, or The Dick Van Dyke Show, do enough to be noticed. Cheers was almost always good and stinkers were exceedingly rare.

But still, even though the quality of the show was amazingly consistently good, especially over so long a stretch, I think the episodes with Shelly Long were in general a good cut above those with Kirstie Alley.
