We’re gonna get it done... what’s more, we gotta get it done.

You have to hear it spoken. Lou Saban is the all time man. How did he raise such a crap-weasel?

BILL PARCELLS:

"So are we gonna play some football tonight, or are we gonna just f*ck around?"

-casually spoken to his Jets players during Monday night pregame stretching at New England. Jets upset Pats that night.

OMG, I was at this MNF game from like 9 years ago. This was the actual quote, though, I'm pretty sure, and he was speaking to members of his underachieving Jets offense while they stretched. Jet's were 6.5 pt dog that night and beat Pats straight up.

LOL at 2 1/2 hour carnival of color, sound and action.

Games used to be only 2 1/2 hours back then?

[/ QUOTE ]

Not as many TV timeouts back then, I guess.

[/ QUOTE ]

+Fewer incomplete passes(league more run-oriented) and plays going out of bounds(if you went out of bounds they used to line you up on the sidelines, so more plays stayed in the middle) stopping clock

HANK STRAM: Hey, Mr Official, let me ask you something: how can six of you miss a call like that? There's six of you...

(referee says something the mic doesn't pick up)

HANK STRAM: (emphatically) No! (immediately confused) What?

[/ QUOTE ]

I believe the ref says something along the lines of: "we were talking about you being on the field" -- then, he walks off, and Hank delivers his line.

That's my favorite NFL Films moment.

[/ QUOTE ]

it was Stram asking the officials how they could miss that foul, and the ref coming back to him with "you mean you being on the field?"

Stram's reaction to that is classic

What the hell is the quote from the coach, maybe from the Redskins, that he was using in some pre-game fire-up talk that they always played in the opening of the NFL Game of the Week or highlight show or whatever with Summeral?
My mind is drawing a blank.
I'm only good at this stuff around SB time when they show about 8-zillion reruns of this stuff on ESPN, 2, and classic.

Except they used to actually stop the clock an out of bounds play until the next play was snapped. Now, unless it's the last 2 minutes, they pause it momentarily just until the ball is set. This rule drives me nuts from a strategic standpoint also, as you used to see smart players deliberately go out of bounds to save time, even if it was only the 3rd quarter and their team was down 17 points. Now, it's like, "great, you saved us 6 seconds, better off getting the extra yard."

And this change was implemented several years ago in order to shorten the games- that were averaging 3:30. I really think it is the commercial breaks- more of them and longer (plus replay reviews)- that is the main difference. I mean they come back from a commercial break- show a kickoff that doesn't even get run out of the endzone- and then go to another commercial break.

Yah Facenda is awesome. He had a way of getting you to root for the underdog - the way he described that '79 Rams team. And the '77 Broncos - "A street-car named 'Desire' once ran thru the city of New Orleans; and after Craig Morton's 74yd TD drive..."
I have to admit the Raiders pirate song is pretty cool.
I want that album now.
