Jon, I don't see what registration and insurance has to do with the OP's idea. [/ QUOTE ] Stoned people sometimes wander in from the heat. |

Re: Would This Work? (Traffic Stop)
i guess it doesn't for the speeding ticket, but does pose the problem of now getting a few other tickets that may or may not be worse than the speeding ticket?

[ QUOTE ] This is an even worse idea then the ol get out of the car and chug a ton of whiskey in front of him so the cop can't prove you were driving drunk trick. [/ QUOTE ] This could work in theory. The problem is that the cop just lets you off, follows you a half-mile down the road and pulls you over again. [/ QUOTE ] Don't most places have open container laws preventing you from drinking booze on the side of the road? |

Re: Would This Work? (Traffic Stop)
Jon,
Why couldn't they still present the insurance/registration to the officer even if they were claiming that neither was driving? It's obviously an idea that would never work, and they'd get obstruction of justice or something like that. I'm not trying to claim it's a good idea, I just don't understand why you're under the assumption that you can't present insurance/registration without being the owner of the car. Jason, Yes they do, but the "theory" behind it is that an open container and public intox ticket are way less damaging then a dui. I wouldn't recommend trying this though, as I'm pretty sure it doesn't work for some reason or another. |

Re: Would This Work? (Traffic Stop)
KU,
Say you met some German dude at a club and he was driving. http://www.knbc.com/news/8771888/detail.html http://news.com.com/8301-10784_3-6059267-7.html "The Ferrari crash spun into a web of mystery when Eriksson told authorities he was only a passenger in the car and that the driver was a German acquaintance he knew only as Dietrich. He said Dietrich ran into the hills, but a search by deputies turned up no one." |

Re: Would This Work? (Traffic Stop)
under my insurance, no one is allowed to drive the car but me. i don't know if the cop cares about that when he runs it or that is something the insurance co takes up w/ me later. regardless, i was being an idiot, but pointing out additional problems

Re: Would This Work? (Traffic Stop)
Jon,
I could be wrong, I don't claim to be an expert. I just figured it was ok as I've been pulled over twice in friends cars, and was never questioned about it. |

Re: Would This Work? (Traffic Stop)
I would think that the odds of the police officer not noticing the switch-over are pretty slim. I would think it's way more trouble than it's worth.

Re: Would This Work? (Traffic Stop)
[ QUOTE ]
[ QUOTE ] Okay so how would this actually work? The cop pulls you over, and you say "no way copper! We were doing the old 3 card monte trick on you. You don't know who was driving, HAHAHAHA!" Cop says: "You're behind the wheel, you were driving. Here's your ticket." You go to court and tell judge: "ticket is not allowable, we were switching spots when we pulled over, so the cop doesn't know who was driving" Judge says: "Here's the fine for obstruction of justice. Plus, here's the baliff to arrest both of you for commiting a felony" You and friend say: "Wahhhhh, we want mommies" Go to federal pound-you-in-the-a$$ prison. [/ QUOTE ] [/ QUOTE ] Yeah, I think this is exactly how it would go down. In all cases - basic switching, window tinting, etc. - you'll end up taking the ticket and probably a fair amount extra for your trouble. |
