I think it is because they show these on tv a lot when one player moves in and the other one calls and they split the pot. I think it takes a decent player to fold a split pot and most of our competition isn't decent.

Value bet half the pot, you will get more calls this way from hands playing the board, and give yourself the same chance to stack 9x.
