I don't think he is breaking any rules dating her, but it will most likely make things awkward with the guy, and OP doesn't want that. Giving him the two weeks, OP can pass it off as he is trying to give this guy some courage. If they start dating, than OP has greatly helped his friend (although he wont bang the chick, he seems like a guy who can find another one without to much trouble). Most likely he won't do anything and OP can still bang her, and the guy feels like he got a fair chance.

I think if i confront him and say "you have 2 weeks", that does 2 very bad things:

1) it makes it seem that I feel he has the "right of way". if I admit that then I don't see how I can ever justify going after her if he still likes her
2) it puts pressure on him to do something, which he would hate. and if he made a move on her because he felt he was under a time limit and she rejected him, he would probably hate me 1000x worse than if I just went for it w/o talking to him.

pretty much I feel that I am either wrong in going for her, or I'm not. If I am wrong I shouldn't do it at all and if I'm not then I shouldn't have to back off at all. I don't like these compromises. I guess my plan now is to talk to him and feel out how strongly he feels about the issue. Ultimately I don't feel I'm wrong in going for her, but if its gonna be a huge burden then its not worth it.

The thing is, whatever you have not heard about Jack liking Amy, or whatever you have heard about Jack not liking Amy, it's [censored]. All lies. He wants her bad, but he got stuck on the friends ladder and he's totally screwed. But now since he feels threatened by you because you're only semi-friends and you could go for a girl over a semi-friend, he wants to try his luck with a ladder jump.

Straight up, assuming you and Jack are twins in every single way, you'd have the advantage because when you're on the friends ladder, it's insanely hard to get off. Good luck.

john has already told me he thinks im totally justified in going after her, and jack isn't going to get super pissed at me for doing this, at most he will be mildly upset for a week or 2 and will be visibly uncomfortable whenever he is in the same room with me and Amy.
