Not really, I had seen him lay down on the flop several times though. In other words, I didn't think he was a calling station so I didn't think I'd be losing value by checking. On the contrary I thought I'd be gaining value by inducing bets/calls on later streets.

I like the play - do it maybe 1/3 of the time against villains who frequently fold the flop.

If he's ahead you get away clean, if you're ahead you make a few extra bucks and give your flop check some more weight

Dont get into the habit of making this play tho.
