The groom is a friend of mine, but the best friend in the OP is a really good friend of mine. He told me, no scrippas allowed and that the groom has basically planned the whole "bachelor party" himself. Stop the insanity!

He also said that the groom told him over a year ago that he wanted to marry this chick and he wanted him to be his best man. Now i'm sure he loves his brother, but they are not close at all. This is basically a ploy by the bride-to-be, cause she doesn't like the grooms #1 choice for BM.

While the best man does most of the planning for the bachelor party all the groomsmen should be involved enough to make sure it does not suck.

OP,

A related thing that is sorta lame imo is when a brother of the bride or sister of the groom gets added to the wedding party of the person their brother/sister is marrying even when they are not very close to that person.

I've been in wedding parties where three of the groomsmen are 10+year super close friends of the groom and then the fourth is the bride's brother who the groom barely knows. I think that's weird and sorta lame.

No big deal imo. I'm one-half of two best men, date TBA. We're the "above average men."

What it means is:

A: Groom will be taken on an adventure trek that will be interrupted halfway by every guy he knows shooting paintballs at him while he's belayed on a rock wall. That'll teach his ass to have two above average men.

B: At the Spearmint Rhino, he will get quads instead of doubles.

An interesting tradeoff, and one I might make myself.

I had two best men, by accident. Had 2 very good friends.

Friend #1- best friends most years kindergarten through college, but drifted apart in the past few years prior to the wedding. Still a good friend, but never talked to him about girls. Ever.

Friend #2- knew him since sophomore year of high school. We wrote each other when we went to different colleges, almost exclusively about chicks. He knew everything about all my relationships, prior and current. When he came back in town post-college we were tight once again.

I hadn't decided what I was going to do yet when the three of us plus others took a road trip to another college. After getting hammered I pretend I'm the bartender at a bar, get caught and kicked out. Buddy #2 defended me and got kicked out with me. It was that gesture that put him over the top, and in my emotional state, picked him as my best man.

I COMPLETELY forgot about my brother; we got along and everything, but didn't see each other much at all. Stupid me didn't even THINK of it until my mom mentioned it on the phone. If I was thinking, I never would have had to choose between my buddies. So buddy #2 and my brother were my best man, which made buddy #1 feel even worse. I explained everything to buddy #1 much later, and he understood.

Then I got divorced. Moral- don't have 2 best men.
