Gay rights is one of the issues I use to test for intelligent conservatives amongst many drones. I don't know how Republican party rhetoric can differ so greatly between supporting the NRA and supporting gay rights.

What is bigoted is to believe that all should not have the same rights in a just society.

Of course it's bigotted, but what people should understand is that being bigotted isn't always a bad thing either. I agree with you that this is a form of "bad" bigotry, but what about pedophiles? I will happily and freely admit that I am bigotted against pedophiles. We've gotten so politically correct about tolerance in this country that we've forgotten that intollerance isn't always a bad thing. Personally, I will happily fight bigotry against homosexuals and support bigotry against pedophiles.

according to Wikipedia,

A bigot is a prejudiced person who is intolerant of opinions, lifestyles, or identities differing from his or her own.

This seems like a terrible definition. I'm intolerant of the lifestyle of serial killers. Does that make me a bigot?

[/ QUOTE ]

Yes! Most everyone is a bigot against something. How else are you going to define it? That's what the words means.

so it seems that it is bigoted not to believe in gay rights.

If you use this definition then the OP is bigoted against his mom's opinion.

[/ QUOTE ]

Yep, the OP is.

This isn't an issue of gay rights, but rather one of human rights. And denying another human his or her rights is always wrong, and to believe that it is correct is always bigoted.

I think it is certainly possible to be against gay rights and not be bigoted. I think that President Bush falls into this category. He believes that gay rights represent continuing social decay. While this is irrational, its not bigoted because I don't believe the President hates gays.
